Safety – First
A Wrangler leads the horse while children are riding. The kids will not control the horse while riding. Kids can lead the mini-horse. Guardians must be present for a child to enter a horse enclosure. We give instruction on safety around animals.
Fun – A Close Second
The camp gives the Buckaroos a chance to enjoy some of the simple pleasures of life. Horseback riding (max 200 lbs); Mini-Horse riding (max 50 lbs); a Petting Zoo with Horses, a Mini-Horse, Mini-Pigs, Goat, Dogs, Guinea Pigs, Chickens, Ducks, a Turtle, and a Cat.
Activities
Help feed the horses and other critters. Enjoy the spectacular view of the Mississippi River and surrounding nature. There is no shortage of things to do at the ranch. Climb a Hay Mountain, Howl Into the Wind, Be a Kid. Cuddle or Play with the Animals all around you, ride a horse and/or mini-horse, learn to rope a steer, learn about care and feeding of ranch animals. Finger gun quick draw training. “Dachl Dodge Water” and other summer games not involving electronics.
Crafting Souvenir: Nail an old horseshoe to a board – decorate it – then brand the Riverview Ranch brand onto the board at Family campfire.
Family Campfire
On Friday we welcome the entire family to campfires (weather permitting). When a fire is good and hot we will brand the buckaroos’ craft boards with Wrangler Roger’s family branding iron. The family brand is “Lazy B over B,” which are the initials of Bunyan Burton, Wrangler Roger Burton’s great grandfather. Then we provide chili, hot dogs for roasting on a stick, marshmallows for toasting on a stick, and root beer floats. Wrangler Roger will tell stories and dad-jokes, play guitar, and sing campfire songs. Buckaroos are allowed one guest each at the campfire. Extra guest tickets can be purchased here.
Rain or Shine
We have a large indoor arena and stable so we operate even in bad weather. There will be no fires inside the building but we will still have food.
What Should the Buckaroos Bring?
Wear sturdy shoes
Bring a snack bag for the Tuesday-Thursday camp events. We will take a snack break half-way through the camp day.
