Safety:

All boat operators in your group, unless they have a DNR and NASBLA approved safety certificate, must watch the US Coast Guard’s 16 minute Safety Video, take the test at the end of the video, and carry proof of completion while operating a rental boat. It is an easy course with good tips to keep you safe. Well worth completing.

Riverboat Roger will orient you to the local area, and go through a short safety checklist which includes a liability waiver.

The American Lotus blooms abundantly most years from mid July to early Sept. There are many other types of interesting plants all over the islands and growing along the banks.

Snapping Turtle

You will likely see a number of large turtles sunning themselves on a log. Also numerous are Eagles, Muskrat, Beaver, many species of Fish, and all sorts of Migratory Waterfowl (in spring and fall). The variety of birds is astounding. Stop paddling and listen to their songs.

Great morning trip!! We booked this last minute when coming into the area. Quick response and accommodated us next day. What a piece of heaven the backwaters are. Roger guided us out to the Mississippi to a beautiful sandy beach. Haven never been on the Mississippi, I really enjoyed the water and the views. Highly recommend having him accompany you to help with navigation and info on the area. Great guy, loves what he’s doing and goes out of his way to make sure you enjoy the experience on the water. Great experience.

Great first time horse experience Quiet peaceful place with warm-hearted hosts. All the animals are so sweet and safe for my 4 year old to pet. Her first time on the horse was amazing! She can’t wait to go back. We also got to pet goats, dogs, miniature pig and month old baby chicks. My daughter can’t stop talking about it. Will definitely go back.

Riding tour My kids (24 and 19) love to ride, so we went riding, but the usual tour is very boring for people who know how to ride, at the end they offered a private ride which would have being fun. So next time please offer the private ride and people will definitely jump in this choice, great outdoors to see and enjoy riding.

Enchanting Experience with Sweet Horses My family was visiting the area and we wanted our two-year old daughter to pet horses. I call this place and they were more than happy to give our daughter her first experience with horses. Personally, I am uncomfortable around horses and I have to say that this was the best experience that I have ever had. These were friendliest, sweetest horses that I've ever been around and the owners went out of their way so that my daughter could get comfortable around them, pet them, and even sit on one for a photo. These horses are clearly raised with love and care. This visit was a highlight on our trip. I would recommend anyone who wants to ride horses or just visit some in the Galena area to contact Riverview Ranch and Resort. Next time we're in the area, we hope to stay there if it isn't booked and at the very least will book a ride.
